At a young age he took lessons from Herbie Hancock and the choice forward was a foregone conclusion. Now he is hailed as one of the world's absolute best jazz vocalists, renowned for his outstanding balance.
Norrbotten Big Band's genre-crossing trombonist Kristian Persson says: - It feels awesome that we managed to get such a prominent vocalist here! His music manages to be both open-hearted and complex at the same time. We are talking about a super-virtuoso and world artist. And as with all champions, it will be great to meet him...
The orchestra's artistic director Joakim Milder is also satisfied. - Michael Mayo creates contemporary, deeply appealing jazz music with the voice at the center. An unlimited instrumentalist who will fascinate and inspire the numerous crowds that we expect will make the pilgrimage to the concerts, he says with a twinkle in his eye. Swedish drummer Calle Rasmusson is the organizer and conductor and the bar is set high with the expectation of great swing under a roof that spans many genres.

Bjärme, Jämtland. It is an almost improbable coincidence that the same small village in Norrland's interior, with less than 70 inhabitants, nurtured two such brilliant talents. The author Bodil Malmsten was born in Bjärme in 1944. The artist and songwriter Ellen Sundberg was born in Bjärme in 1992. The two are only a hundred meters and 48 years apart. When Bodil Malmsten died in 2016, she left a big void behind. A wayward authorship and a distinctive portrayer of the experience of growing up in both the city and the country no longer existed. Malmsten ended up in a foster home in Vällingby as a teenager. A background whose split nature was a recurring theme in her writing. Not least in the acclaimed autobiography My First Life.
Since her debut in 2013, Ellen Sundberg has released four English-language albums, two of which were recorded in the USA, in Texas and Nashville, respectively. She had her wider breakthrough with the critically acclaimed album You sold my ticket, where she interprets Kjell Höglund, where she showed a rare ability to portray text. In email correspondence, Bodil encouraged Ellen Sundberg to start singing in Swedish. Ellen had previously considered bringing out the inherent music in Bodil Malmsten's poetry. But the specific goal of creating something uniform for the stage provided a welcome input into the selection of texts that had previously been lacking. Patterns and themes soon emerged. About death, loss, longing and exclusion. About rootlessness and roots. About city and country. And soon the work began to immortalize the music that flowed from Ellen also on record.
A flare for Bodil Malmsten is both an album and a musical performance. The album was released in 2021 and the show then made a successful tour through Sweden. Now the turn has come to Piteå and the Festival.

The words are Pernilla Andersson's, and in 2024 she and the gun-slinger for almost 30 years, guitarist Fredrik Rönnqvist, will go out into the country. Pernilla Andersson has started work on a new album so it will be a mix of new and old music that we will hear during the Festival. Pernilla Andersson is one of our most popular and touring artists, who has been nominated for a Grammy several times as composer of the year, artist of the year and singer/songwriter. In 2021, Pernilla received the Olle Adolphson scholarship, awarded by the Musical Academy with the rationale: Pernilla is a musical natural child in a producer suit of excellent cut. If Monica Zetterlund was called a lingonberry in a cocktail glass, Pernilla Andersson is a gold viva in a whiskey glass.

Superstar Nina Stemme is one of Sweden's most internationally acclaimed dramatic sopranos. She has won many prizes and awards, including the government's honorary award for "extraordinary efforts for Swedish music exports" in 2016 and The Birgit Nilsson Prize in 2018. Stemme regularly sings on the world's most prestigious opera stages: Wiener Staatsoper, London Royal Opera House in Covent Garden, La Scala in Milan, the Metropolitan Opera in New York and the operas in Frankfurt and Zurich. The versatile pianist Magnus Svensson is considered one of Scandinavia's leading interpreters of the classical piano repertoire. With a fantastic voice and unique intensity, she has the ability to literally captivate her audience. Isabella has been nominated for a Grammy and has been awarded numerous prizes and scholarships. In recent years, we have seen her sing both at the Sports Gala and SVT's New Year's Concert, Allsång at Skansen and in På Spåret. In 2016, Isabella gave an attention-grabbing Summer Talk in P1 where she highlighted several of the life issues that are also reflected and are central to her music.
Under the banner of All, or nothing at all, Isabella sings the American songbook's most disturbing arias of heartbreak, longing and rising, over and over again, composed and performed by some of the most iconic and powerful women in music history: Billie Holliday, Judy Garland, Edith Piaf, Maria Callas, Shirley Bassey & Barbra Streisand. Our main inspiration has clearly been mother earth and man's relationship to it. When we noticed that this was something we were both very interested in, it became natural to write songs that dealt with this topic. With 10 years in På Spåret, as well as many TV concerts such as the Victoria concert, the band has gained a special place among the Swedish people, and they have worked with almost all major Swedish artists. But the time Sven-Bertil was with them in Pa? The track and, for the first time in public, Evert's "17th ballad" made a strong impression on them. Here the band is reinforced, among other things, by the fantastic LISA LÅNGBACKA on accordion. EDDA MAGNASON suddenly became nationally famous from being a celebrated artist in connoisseur circles. Her portrayal of Monica Zetterlund stunned both critics and a large film audience. But Edda's expression does not rest on someone else's, she is a personal artist with a wonderful voice and aura, constantly searching further in music - and also on the theater stage. She and the August family have collaborated several times, including in SVT's På Spåret HENRIK WALLGREN is a famous singer, adventurer and writer from Brännö, Gothenburg.
