The island belongs to Västerbotten County and is jointly owned by the municipalities of Piteå and Skellefteå. It is located on the outermost edge of the sea towards the Bothnian Bay, just off the village of Kinnbäck, about 50 km north of Skellefteå and approximately 30 km south of Piteå.

Today, Pite-Rönnskär is primarily a summer paradise with an interesting history as a fishing village, pilot station, and lighthouse site. The buildings are clustered close to the harbor. The roughly 30 houses are now used as holiday homes, most of which are owned by descendants of fishermen, boatmen, lighthouse keepers, and pilots.

The island also has a summer café and a hostel. If you don’t have your own boat, boat trips can be booked.

You can also take a water taxi from Kinnbäck with Kinnbäck Archipelago Taxi.
