Storforsen
Experience the powerful flow of Storforsen!
Here you can swim, enjoy a coffee break, or join a guided tour surrounded by spectacular nature.
Storforsen, located in Älvsbyn Municipality, is the largest unregulated rapid in Europe. The entire stretch of the rapids extends for about 5 kilometres, with a total drop of 82 metres. The nature reserve, established in 1971 and expanded in 1997, is an impressive example of the dramatic river landscapes of northern Sweden.
The area has been developed to make visits as accessible and enjoyable as possible. There is plenty of visitor information, walking trails, picnic areas, and waste bins, and large parts of the area are accessible for people with reduced mobility.
During the summer months, there is also a café as well as a handicraft and souvenir shop.
If you would like more information, a map of the area, or have any other questions regarding the regulations for the area, you can visit the Norrbotten County Administrative Board’s website.
