"Amour & Courage"

Take a walk in central Piteå and contemplate Piteå's fine murals.
In May 2023, Piteå's art festival OGJORT was held. This year's theme was murals and four artists have painted four different walls in central Piteå.

Amanda Mendiant - Aronsgatan 12
Amanda Mendiant is a French-Swedish visual artist living in Piteå. For the past 20 years, she has worked as a visual artist, illustrator, guest taught illustration and artistic techniques. She now also freelances as an art director and is challenged by working with different artistic expressions. Amanda's images have always revolved around women, in harmony with her own development. Still portraits where presence and volumes required space and place in the rooms.

Amanda says that people and the body as a means of expression have always been central to her work. Women have been the starting point but she has always played with ambivalence, androgyny and gender and right now this question is important. For everyone. She wants to address the younger generation, who feel that they may not really fit in, or dare to be themselves.

A reminder that "you can actually be who you want". But of course it takes courage…
