"A space-man dancing with an etiopian angel"
Take a walk in central Piteå and contemplate Piteå's fine murals.
In May 2023, Piteå's art festival OGJORT was held. This year's theme was murals and four artists have painted four different walls in central Piteå.
Cassius Fadlabi - Västergatan 10
Cassius Fadlabi lives and works in Luleå. He is educated at the Oslo Academy of Fine Arts, Al-Neelain University in Khartoum and Sudan University. He works with painting, text and performance. In 2008 he founded "One Night Only", an artist-run platform in Oslo that shows a new artist every Monday. Perhaps one of Norway's most visited galleries. Between 2010-2014 he worked with artist Lars Cuzner on European Attraction Limited, a contemporary interpretation of a human zoo named Kongobyn which was part of the 1914 World Exhibition in Oslo. They restored the village and opened it to the public in May 2014.
Cassius says he finds inspiration in everything. Every little thing in his daily life is good enough to make art out of. This work is a tribute to a long research in Afro-Futurism.
During his years studying art in Oslo, he became so saddened by the lack of African art history in the curriculum, that Cassius began his own research into Afro-Futurism and Ethiopian church paintings.
