Lomtjärn Adventure Forest
Welcome to the Cozy Urban Adventure Forest
Here you’ll find:
- Bivouacs/shelters
- Tables and benches
- Fire pits
- A birdwatching dock
The area is easily accessible: the main trail is wheelchair-friendly, there’s a large parking area, small side trails here and there, and several benches along the main path. An oasis of nature close to the city — tip: don’t forget insect repellent!
Lomtjärn is an urban-adjacent outdoor area on the outskirts of Piteå, designed for recreation, activities, birdwatching, and hiking. Schools have great opportunities here for excursions and outdoor days. For mushroom pickers, the area offers treats like porcini, saffron milk cap, and slippery jack mushrooms.
Lomtjärn also features very old pine forests with trees over 200 years old. The black woodpecker is one of the birds that rely on old forests for food, shelter, and nesting. Evidence of past human activity can also be found here: open grasslands were once cultivated and grazed, and old house foundations and stone fences show that people once lived and worked in the area.
Due to land uplift, the land has risen almost 1 cm per year. Around 500 AD, Lomtjärn, now about 1,500 meters above sea level, was part of the sea, which reached all the way here. The highest point in the area, at the water tower, was at that time a 15-meter-high islet. The nearby residential area is therefore called “the island.”
Welcome to Lomtjärn!
