La Sonnambula will be broadcast live at Studio Acusticum on October 18.   This operatic gem from one of the great masters of melody is a milestone in the art of singing. The title role of the sleepwalking girl was written for the greatest diva of the time, Giuditta Pasta. The role demands a rare combination of innocence, charm and astonishing vocal virtuosity. Deeper than a comedy, but by no means a tragedy, La Sonnambula reaches its resolution through gripping character development rather than through intrigue or farce. La Sonnambula had its world premiere at the TeatroCarcano in Milan in 1831.   Director Rolando Villazón, who has gone from successful tenor to brilliant director, places the opera in its original setting in the Swiss Alps, while exploring its dreamlike story from a psychological perspective. Since he was released after 438 days of captivity in the infamous Kality Prison in Ethiopia, he has worked to keep his promise to his fellow prisoners and tell about what he saw.   The question of the responsibility of oil companies for human rights is particularly relevant this year in light of the trial for international law violations that is ongoing in Stockholm District Court against the oil company Lundin Oil, which Martin Schibbye examined in Ethiopia. Now they are on trial for their operations in Sudan.    Martin Schibbye will lecture about the work as a foreign correspondent, the historic trial and about the hunting season that is prevailing for journalists around the world.   The event is arranged by Piteå Municipality and is free of charge. It is part of Focus on Human Rights, inspiring days on the occasion of the 5th anniversary of Piteå as a Human Rights City and the Sami Language Week. She likes dialects and does her best to imitate them. In her everyday life she is a TV journalist who works with culture and entertainment and likes to keep track of most local news on stage.
