Martin Schibbye works as a foreign correspondent and is editor-in-chief of the reporting website Blankspot. Since he was released after 438 days of captivity in the infamous Kality Prison in Ethiopia, he has worked to keep his promise to his fellow prisoners and tell about what he saw.
The question of the responsibility of oil companies for human rights is particularly relevant this year in light of the trial for international law violations that is ongoing in Stockholm District Court against the oil company Lundin Oil, which Martin Schibbye examined in Ethiopia. Now they are on trial for their operations in Sudan.
Martin Schibbye will lecture about the work as a foreign correspondent, the historic trial and about the hunting season that is prevailing for journalists around the world.
The event is arranged by Piteå Municipality and is free of charge. It is part of Focus on Human Rights, inspiring days on the occasion of the 5th anniversary of Piteå as a Human Rights City and the Sami Language Week. The complete program can be found at www.pitea.se/MR2025
