Labyrinth in the north
Traveling exhibition since 2016 – currently on display at the Boat Museum in Piteå. Trelleborg, Trojeborg, Jungfrudans, Jättehägn: the names may vary, but they all describe the classic labyrinth. Not a chaotic, complex and confusing labyrinth, but an elegant, magical and mysterious one. Many of the labyrinths in the Bothnian natural and cultural landscape are seemingly built in deliberately “beautiful locations”, that is, on slopes towards the east and the sea. In many cases, the labyrinth’s entrance faces the sunrise.
Who built the labyrinths in the Piteå archipelago?
What were they used for?
How old are they?
These are some of the questions answered in the exhibition Labyrinths in the North.
