I REMEMBER THE FLOWERS
AND THE ROAD
AND THE FOREST
AND THE HILLSIDE.
I dream of the house, the house, the house. In my dreams there are memories, and in the memories I dream again.
Of the flowers and the forest and the road. Of the spring floods and the roof of the playhouse.
I know which ditches got the first coltsfoot, and exactly which path through the forest you have to take to find the stone.
I remember the shortcuts and where one got lost. I remember the brook with clear water.
I remember the Big Dipper. Always just above the house.
I remember no clouds or bad weather. Only the rain, but not as a problem.
Actually, I do remember one cloud — the one that lay right in the middle of the field below the treetops for several weeks.
Moa Märta Markgren (b. 1991) was born and raised in Skellefteå. From 1994 to 2005, she lived along Road 95 in Åliden, the small village from which this exhibition takes its form — through memories, dreams, and stories.
Moa Märta is a textile-driven artist who moves in the borderland between illustration, object, and spatiality. Her artistic practice is based on a continuous exploration of the relationship between form and function, need and desire, where each work is characterized by a care for the sustainable and the slow — for that which is allowed to remain over time.
In her work, she operates in the in-betweens: between image and object, between dream and everyday life, between form and function. She examines how the illustrative can take place in the three-dimensional, how drawings can take shape as objects, and how objects can speak to the viewer. Through subtle shifts, placements, and encounters between materials, she creates scenes that invite reflection — sometimes playful, sometimes subdued, but always with a seriousness rooted in the presence of everyday life.
