Jazz in Piteå - Ilaria Capalbo Quintet, The Brightest Sun

Stockholm-based bassist and composer Ilaria Capalbo's playing has been described as strong, visionary and architectural (Lira, SE) and her compositions as lush (NoTreble, USA). Double bass, electric bass and effects make up her palette. Known for moving seamlessly between genres, she weaves elements from modern jazz, rock and experimental music into her compositional process.

 

After the international success of her debut album Karthago in 2022, Ilaria comes to Piteå with newly written music for her quintet. The Brightest Sun is inspired by the transformative experience of motherhood. The music moves between powerful and intimate moments, it is both raw and unpredictable, but also tender. A storyteller in soul and heart, Ilaria creates music that is rich, immediate, deeply personal but at the same time close and lasting for the listener. The band was selected to perform during the European Showcases at jazzahead! 2025.
