Madama Butterfly - Live from MET
Puccini's classic opera Madama Butterfly with soprano Asmik Grigorian in the lead role will be broadcast live to Folkets Hus and Parker's cinemas on May 11.
In his Met debut, Asmik Grigorian takes on the demanding role of Cio-Cio-San, the gullible geisha at the heart of Puccini's tragedy. Tenor Jonathan Tetelman is the callous American naval officer Pinkerton whose betrayal destroys her. The story of the unrequited love that torments the young Japanese woman is one of the world's most famous tragic operas and the timeless melodies (Arian Un bel di and Humming Chorus) are familiar to both seasoned and new opera goers.
Mezzo-soprano Elizabeth DeShong is the steadfast maid Suzuki, and baritone Lucas Meachem is the American consul Sharpless.
Acclaimed maestro Xian Zhang makes his Met debut as a conductor in Oscar-winning filmmaker Anthony Minghella's vibrant production.
