In addition to accommodation, Furunäset is also an established venue for conferences, meetings, and various types of events. There are conference facilities of different sizes, making it suitable for both smaller groups and larger gatherings.
The surrounding area offers close access to nature, walking paths, and water, creating a calm environment for both work and relaxation. The combination of history, functional facilities, and a nature-based setting makes Furunäset a versatile place for both stays and meetings.
Brief history of the building
The building was constructed in 1893 and designed by the architect Axel Kumlien. It was located on Pitholmen outside Piteå after careful consideration of location, transport connections, water supply, and access to food. At the time of its inauguration, Furunäset hospital was one of the largest and most impressive building complexes in northern Sweden.
The favorable conditions that were once selected – a sheltered location close to both water and town – still define the area today. Since 1987, the building has been used as a hotel, conference facility, and business area.
Brief history of Furunäset Hospital
Furunäset Hospital opened in 1893 when patients arrived by boat at the newly built quay along the Pite River. The hospital became an important part of early psychiatric care in northern Sweden, receiving patients from across the country.
Many people spent large parts of their lives at the site, and its history includes both light and dark stories. Today, Furunäset is a place with a rich and complex history that continues to shape its environment.
